DESCRIPTION

The 2016 Annual Scholarship Dinner has been cancelled.

RECENT

On Friday, June 5, 2015, 59 Spartan alumni and friends attended our Scholarship Dinner at the Greysone Mansion in Honor, an evening which benefits our Benzie-MSU Scholarship Endowment Fund. This annual event celebrated our 2015 Benzie County Scholarship recipients, Shayla Soto from Frankfort -Elberta High School, Madison O'Connor and Elizabeth Thaxton from Benzie Central High School. Dr. Carl Liedholm, a Professor of Economics at MSU, spoke on the topic “The Sun Never Sets on the MSU Empire – From MSU Sports to Micro Businesses Around the Globe

* BEACH BASH *    [top of page]

DESCRIPTION

In August we hold our casual event on the water's edge and enjoy a picnic with hot dogs and brats and the public is invited. Everyone brings a dish to share and we gather to socialize and enjoy each other's company. We usually have a live and/or silent auction with great items from MSU along with other treasures.

RECENT

On August 11, 2016, 45 people gathered at the Elberta Pavilion and a good time was had by all. Over $700 was raised for the Scholarship Endowment, including a generous sponsorship from the MSU Federal Credit Union.

* FOOTBALL PARTY *    [top of page]

DESCRIPTION

In the fall (October or November), we gather at a local venue to cheer on the MSU Spartans playing their arch rival, U of M, on big screen TV. Lunch, games and prizes are available and we all have a fun Saturday afternoon regardless of the outcome.

The public, including U of M supporters, is welcome.

RECENT

Over 320 people attended the MSU - UM football viewing party sponsored by the club at Frankfort's Garden Theater on October 17, 2015 to enjoy (or not) the game and the opportunity to purchase StormCloud beer and A Papanos pizza, along with other items from the theater's concession counter. In addition they were able to participate in score by quarters and 50/50 drawings. Admission was free and a suggested donation of $5.00 to the Scholarship Endowment fund was asked of each attendee. In one of the most closely contested games in this rivalry in the past few years the Spartans were able to emerge victorious on a bizarre final play of the game 27 - 23. Spartan fans were delirious and, naturally, UM fans stunned. After all bills and other incidental costs were accounted for, $2500.00 was deposited to the Scholarship Endowment fund.

* BASKETBALL PARTY *    [top of page]

DESCRIPTION

Just when you think that winter will never end, we have our fun-filled basketball event. It is usually held in January or February at a local tavern. We watch the game on a big screen TV and enjoy a casual lunch or dinner along with snacks and beverages. We have a 50/50 drawing and give out cash and prizes.

RECENT

The Basketball watch was held January 23, 2016 at the Villa. A SMALL group of hardy souls watched MSU defeat Maryland.
